What I learned
For this film I was given the opportunity to collaborate with two amazing writers on how to put their comedy and voice on the screen. Wendy and Lori are two seasoned pros and tapped into their roots to find the humor in Abuelas, Santeria, and motherhood.
I learned that coverage is key in comedy, so scheduling the days took some fine tuning to make sure we could fit the 12 pages into the 4 days we had budgeted for and still leave breathing room for improvisation and change. I also learned the strength of working with improvisors, as they can edit a scene on the fly.
